Planning:
My planning was figuring out what I wanted to do, at first I wanted to
do something with my dog, but i couldn't figure out how it would connect to my theme and what the purpose would be. While researching photographers I came upon an artist called Man Rey and I liked his work with surrealism which led me to another path and new ideas. The pictures of the right demonstrate how i wanted to follow up with that idea. I wasn't very much convinced so I decided to, keep researching artworks and I came upon, ¨Familiar objects (1928) by Rene Magritte and I was able to brainstorm a new idea, that related to both my theme and something personal. Once I knew what I wanted to do, exploring an ideal title for my artwork was the next step. I couldn't decide what title described my artwork best. Planning also consisted of figuring out what objects were going to represent my brother, considering that both artworks from Rene are made from objects that have a significant meaning. Inspiration : |
|
I know me but this is what you see was inspired by two of Rene Magritte artworks. The artworks include Familiar Objects (1928) and Personal values (1952. René Magritte is one of the most internationally recognized surrealist artists but he did not receive recognition until he turned 50. I chose Familiar objects, (1928) for the purpose that it was an artwork that I needed to use since I used it in my comparative study, and I was originally going to do a painting with it. Then I decided to do a digital collage. The familiar objects (1928) is a mixture of portraits in different angles. Where they are replicas of each other wearing, indistinct clothes, features, and expressions. There are considered to be characteristic of Magritte. ¨The objects, on the other hand, are unique and command more attention than the figures who stare blankly at them¨. Personal values (1952) by Rene Magritte contributed to my piece by gaining inspiration from the setting and what objects to use in my artwork. Personal values (1952) has a similar meaning to familiar objects, but the objects placed in Personal Values are demonstration items that an average person would use every day, while in Familiar objects, show a significance to Rene's personality.
Purpose:
The purpose of I know me, but this is what you see is meant to show the different types of characteristics within the model's personalities. The model is my 12-year-old brother. I chose him for this piece because we both grew up with the same beliefs and interest, the only difference would be that he is a male. Seeing him grow up and turn into a teenager, has triggered different types of personalities. Where he has mood swings, and sometimes loses control with his emotions, and only he knows what he goes through but his emotions are seen as a rebel. In this artwork, I will outline some of his personalities using objects, similar to Rene in The familiar objects. While Rene illustrated himself in a bow tie, around Alexis' neck there was supposed to be a Virgin mary Necklace which shows his catholic beliefs, a soccer ball because my dad forced both of us to take that sport, and I saw my brother changed his interest into boxing, while the bomb demonstrates his bipolar disorder finally, The rose represents him blooming, and opening up after his rebel stages. The and controller and soccer ball fall into personal values, where an average boy today's interest include sports or being video games.
Experimentation:
Process:
- First I made a rough draft, by choosing radom pictures online an expirmenting, how to work the tools in photp pea
- once i got the hang of it, i used the photos that i was gong to use for my actual artowkr
- I took the photos using an i phone, but setting it in potiat mode
- Then i would click, open on the left corner to uplaod a picture, usng the megantic tool, i would use it to cut around alecis face, to cut off the background.
- I did that step repeatly till i had all 5 pictures, and i was pleased with the cutting
- Then i placed the images in a similar postion that Rene potayed himself in ¨Fimilar Objects (1928)"
- I was able to place a black central background, and clouds on the left and right side simialr to ¨Personal Values¨(1952).
- I then googles, he object sthat i was going to use, to reprsent the chacterisc of my model
- I cut them out using the magneic tool, and place them accordling to my inspiration
- Once i was please with my final product, i saved it and pirnted it out.

Reflection:
- I came upon a lot of challenges while doing this artwork, I felt like I had less control because I was relying on technology for this piece. Instead of being to manipulate things with my hands, I'm more of a hand on the learner. I didn't like being on my computer for hours trying to cut around a shape, and opening up tabs after tabs. This project required a lot of patience because the apps would freeze, photos would upload and it was frustrating. Although I am pleased with the final product, I can overcome these challenges if I practiced working on photoshop more, and take breaks in between so my eyes wouldn't burn. I do plan on tweaking my artwork a little more, to clean up the edges, and portions the images better. This is my second project where I use photo pea and I have been able to develop my technical skills a little bit, ut still hope to explore within the app and create more projects for further use. Convingmy brother to model for me, was the hardest part because he didn want to do it, he was very annoyed because i had to tell him what way to stand and it wouldve been better if i had someone who was willyng to work with him. I couldve ctreated something more plwasing if i had the expience in photoshop and someone whowas willing to work and have patience.
Act:
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork:
My inspirations affected my artwork by the purposed assumption of my artwork. Both had objects that told a story,
What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
My author saw Rene Magritte as a surrealist artist that purposely did his artwork to challenge the viewer and have them make their own assumptions about his pieces.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
Among my research I saw and read that Rene style involved to use objects in a non realistic way to provide provoking images.
What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The central theme around my work was beauty and religion, to show how religion has impacted the behavior a 12 year old boy and the beauty of him maturing.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
I inferred through my research that Rene, did not give description of his artwork, he only gave brief descriptions because he wanted the view t come up with their own meaning, with a little background knowledge.
